Known as the first indie record store in Texas, Inner Sanctum Records sat at 24th St.  just off "The Drag" (Guadalupe St.), near the University of Texas at Austin.  Inner Sanctum developed a singular reputation for cultivating local music.

As the local music scene took off in Austin, Inner Sanctum was there to support them with record release parties that often involved a keg of beer. Local acts like The Huns, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Standing Waves, F-Systems, The Big Boys, The Dicks, The Norvells, Joe "King" Carrasco and the Crowns, Kamikaze Refrigerators, Sharon Tate's Baby, and more got the royal treatment at Inner Sanctum.

Major label recordings were celebrated as well, with the likes of an Elvis Costello Look-A-Like Contest for the release of My Aim is True and parties to call attention to in-town performances by notables such as The Plasmatics, Graham Parker, or Joe Jackson.

UT students and other locals would often purchase the latest (or simply a greatest) LP at Inner Sanctum and then head around the corner for a burger at Mad Dog & Beans. We salute the independent nature adn full-throated support that Inner Sanctum brought to Austin in those days.
