SKYLINE CLUB Hooded Sweatshirt - Austin, Texas (1949-1989)

This favorite live music venue was located at 11306 North Lamar Boulevard (near Braker Lane) in Austin, featuring this iconic neon sign. Opened in 1946, the roadhouse was a popular dance hall featuring prominent country, western swing, honky-tonk, and rock-and-roll artists on a low stage with even lower ceilings. Elvis Presley played the Skyline in 1955, and scenes from the Willie Nelson film Honeysuckle Rose were filmed there.

During the mid-1970s, the club became known as the Soap Creek Saloon, hosting Austin's Outlaw Country movement artists including Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Asleep at the Wheel, and Jerry Jeff Walker. In 1989 the building was demolished to widen the intersection of Lamar Boulevard and Braker Lane.
