Steamboat 1874 - Sixth Street music venue, Austin Texas tee (1980s)

Austin's popular music venue that featured those massive limestone walls, hardwood floors, balconies, and bars long enough to have multiple time zones, Steamboat 1874 provided top musical talent in the early days of the developing Austin music scene.

Artists that headlined during its 1977-99 reign on Sixth Street included Christopher Cross, Van Wilks, Joe King Carrasco, Dino Lee, Stephen Doster, Ian Moore, Eric Johnson, Willie Nelson, The Byrds, Los Lobos, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slash, Roger Waters, Bernie Taupin, Dr. John, Helen Reddy, Al Dimeola, Dick Dale and more.

Many local acts strutted their stuff their as well: Timbuk 3, David Garza, Chris Durante, Vallejo, Johnny Law, the Arc Angels, Breedlove, The Scabs, Johnny Law, Soulhat, Sunflower, Charlie and Will Sexton, Ian Moore, Billy White, Joe Rockhead, Arc Angels, Pushmonkey, Too Smooth, Killer Bees, Onyxx, Little Sister, The Bizness, Steamroller, E.R. Shorts, The Electromagnets, Breedlove, Storyville, the Ugly Americans and others. (And even comedians Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison entertained crowds there.)
