I believe...

"On those long summer days, after we finished our wiffle ball game, just as the sun was beginning to set, and the air was beginning to cool, and the fireflies were starting to come out, we went in through the back door, dropping our gloves on the bench on the porch, brushing the dirt and grass from our legs and clothes. My mom had dinner ready, and after we'd watch some of the ballgame on TV, I'd take a bath to remove the green grass stains on my knees--a mark of my dedication to the game. Being a part of the thing that my dad loved, even though it was the recreational, plastic, backyard version of the sport, meant something to my Dad. I could tell. And so it meant just as much to me.

That's why I believe in wiffle ball."

David Mullany invented the Wiffle Ball as an out-of-work semi-pro baseball pitcher, making a ball for kids to throw curveballs with. He started selling the balls out of the trunk of his car, and eventually patented the design with the eight oblong cutouts in 1957. The Wiffle Ball was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2017.
