Once upon a time, there was a sign that hung from the front of the El Mercado restaurant at 1702 Lavaca Street, a site that was the former home to Jorge's Uptown Enchilada Bar back in the 1980s. It featured the slogan "World Peace Through Tex-Mex." We miss the Lavaca Street location of the enchilada bar that served frozen margaritas and enchilada plates to Austiinites for nearly five decades.
