Mad Dog & Bean's was a simple and quaint burger stand on the edge of the University of Texas West Campus that looked like what you'd expect to see in a film about old Austin. With outstanding burgers, fries, and malts, it was the kind of place you took out-of-town company to eat. Inexpensive, and innovative, with offerings like their Primo burger, a quarter-pound burger blended with bacon, jalapeños, and onions, then grilled and topped with melted cheese. Mad Dog & Beans was part of the daily menu for generations of UT students.

Sadly, we lost Mad Dog and Beans to progress in the mid-1990s. We'll always remember Mad Dog and Beans as one of those places that you wanted to go back to, with its simple, unpretentious, tasty food. Many Austin-ites miss it. RIP Mad Dogs. But you can remember it again with this tribute to their 'mad' existence.
