Manor Downs was a horse track outside Austin. A series of historic concerts were held at Manor Downs throughout the 1970s and 1980s as Austin took the role as the dead-head experience in Texas. Tie-dyed-in-the-wool acolytes came to see their Dead play there in 1977, 1981, 1982, 1983, and for the last time on Labor Day weekend in 1985. After the 1985 show in Manor Downs, the group only played two more shows in Texas, in 1988, and then never played the Lone Star State again. Manor Downs was perhaps best-known for this series of concerts.
